After a trial period starting in November 2005, BioDiesel Norge (now BioFuel AS) is now delivering biodiesel to road-building company Mesta AS for its fleet of vehicles.
"We want to reduce our energy use and cut down on environmentally dangerous emissions," said Heather Bergsland, Mesta's environmental director. "To reach this goal, we have several projects set up, but we will begin by using clean biodiesel because we do not have to overhaul the engine. It involves only filling the tank as usual."
In 2004, Mesta used 9.78 million liters of diesel. The company believes that as the largest entrepreneur in road construction, it is duty bound to be environmentally conscious and hopes it can lead the way to influence the industry to choose a more environmentally friendly direction.
"We'll do that by using biodiesel from BioDiesel Norge," said Bergsland. "We hope others in our industry follow suit."
