Norman Ernest Borlaug (March 25, 1914 to September 12, 2009) was an American agronomist, humanitarian, and Nobel laureate who has been deemed the father of the Green Revolution.
Borlaug's discoveries have been estimated to have saved over one billion lives worldwide.
Borlaug was one of only six people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. He was also a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor.
He was also known to be controversial which in turn prevented him from applying his proven and successful work in Africa.
